C is for CRADLE

When our middle son was born his grandpa Lou made a beautiful baby cradle by hand. He asked that it stay in our family and be passed on to all the new babies. Grandpa Lou has long since passed but his wishes were honored.

We were thrilled to receive it and that our middle son Kevin would be the first to use the cradle. We then used it with our youngest son and  passed it on to brothers and sisters. It cradled and rocked 9 more  babies until it was packed away in an attic for many years.

When we found out that our now grown son and his wife would be expecting their first baby and our first grandbaby, it brought back the memories of the cradle.
I really had no idea where the cradle had ended up, or if it was still even around. When asking our siblings if anyone knew where it was, we were thrilled to find out that my sister-in-law still had it in her attic.

They shipped it to us and my husband began the process of restoring this now 24 year old cradle. He did a beautiful job. It was surreal to see our grandson  Liam, laying in the cradle for the very first time.
These types of family heirlooms sometimes don't mean as much to us as maybe  they should. Sometimes it takes a life change that makes you appreciate something like a baby's cradle in a whole different way.

What a beautiful cradle, and a beautiful legacy. May it be passed down for many generations to come!
